Tactical versus Strategic

Most people are tactical in their lives. By tactical, I mean, they have a skill that they do a little better than the next person. For example: server administrator, forklift operator, surgeon, barber; you get the point.

Something that’s hard to measure is your ability to succeed. Seth Godin calls it process:

“refers to the emotional intelligence skills you have about managing projects, visualizing success, persuading other people of your point of view, dealing with multiple priorities, etc. This stuff is insanely valuable and hard to learn.”

So how do you develop the strategic skills? The best way is to be part of something successful and observing. Another quality is that you can not fear failure. If you play the game “not to lose”, then you will most likely never truly win. The only other thing, I can think of is desire. If you want to succeed so badly, it’s easy to check your ego and work with people in a manner that will lead to success.

You can lose without being a loser. Just as any successful person.
