Testing Google Voice Push to Talk

Here is another Google Voice feature worth mentioning. If you’re not familiar with Google Voice, you can learn more in my post titled “Google Voice – It’s more like a personal PBX.”

This button allows people to initiate a phone call from a website to me. Here’s how it works:

  1. Click on the “Call Me” image.
  2. Enter your name and phone number.
  3. Click the “connect” button.

Google calls your phone and then connects you to phone associated with the website.

It works as advertised.

What are the practical uses? The short answer is “No”, but I could see it being useful for customer support. I would love to hear other uses for this feature. Please feel free to comment.

It also allows people to get in contact with you without you disclosing your personal phone number. I don’t know how big an issue this is or what type of business operates this way. Maybe on Craigslist or something. Personally, I think email is so much better, what’s the point.

How would I improve it? The ability to customize the text in the image. For example, instead of “call me”, I would use “Click to Call”.
